The Occasion

I adore photographing these two! I met them in 2016 when I was hired to shoot little G's 3rd birthday party. Since then, we've made it a tradition to get together to take their holiday card photos.

Approach

These were studio style shoots with lights and props like presents, a real tree, some silly hats, etc. We did a couple outfit changes - formal and pj's! But mostly it was all about capturing the joy of the holidays and the special mother-daughter bond these two share. Their most recent session was in December 2020 during one of the pandemic's worst waves. To ensure our safety, I wore a mask for the shoot and kept a distance of at least six feet.

The Shoot

Baby E was turning one and his parents wanted some portraits taken to mark the occasion. They opted for professional photos because they planned on enlarging and printing some for a display at his birthday party the following weekend.

Approach

Baby E was born in the summer, so I suggested Chicago Women's Park and Gardens in the Near South Side because of its beautiful backdrop of trees. His parents brought along some fun props - a cake, a party hat, some large letters to spell his initials and a basket with balloons tied to it to look like a child-sized hot air balloon. We let him have fun with the props to get some candids and his mom did a great job making silly faces to get some smiles for his portraits.

It was such a pleasure working with Katherine. She took my son's 1 year old photos and it was absolutely adorable. She's patient, creative and just an amazing photographer overall. Thank you Katherine for capturing a special moment and being a part of our family history.
